11/20/2012 2 Comments Believe Benefit for John BeaverIt isn’t everyday that you walk across a literal bridge from the default world into the “land of the rave”, but that was our first welcoming at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo in San Jose, Ca on Thursday November 9th. It was near freezing by 8:30pm when we first arrived on scene, and we were forced to kill an hour in the parking lot on sheer principle, however the adolescent residents of the Southern Bay Area had a different vibe for the evening. The younger technophile generation, raised at the hands of Silicon Valley engineers and entrepreneurs, took no offense to an early evening party on the weekdays. We arrived to hear Nit Grit’s heavy beats pound through the crisp air. The difference between an enclosed arena and an exterior amphitheater is never more dramatic than when the bass pounds through near-freezing space. He was playing strong, powerful dubby-house and the crowd was just bobbin’ as they warmed up next to one another conserving body heat. However, once the control set was handed off to Seven Lions the party turned trance-eptic, the mass turned into a puddle, and the stranger’s looks became welcoming and appreciated. But the true psycadellia didn’t take a stand until Tritonal, the headliner and benefit-recipient, took to the DJ booth and he made it rain glow-sticks. Powerful, heavy, soulful, but with mysterious dark undertones that really rattled you to the bone. The DJ’s were comfortably set-up two stories high in the playground castle in the center of the plaza area, while spinnin’ out to 500+ animals getting dirty in the sandbox. The party was a benefit put on to raise money for John Beaver aka Tritonal’s recent emergency medical trips with 100% of the proceeds from the event being donated. It was a party put on in the name of good health, and to good health everybody went all out in the amusing atmosphere of a family zoo. While nature’s animals were trying to sleep, the roar from the South Bay’s nocturnal animals were going all night long. For peace, for sex, and for a long healthy life we were dancing until the sheer chill turned to sweat. We were all wild animals released to run rampant and to this I say, way to go San Jose, and here’s to Tritonal for the experience.
